Why mirrored noise looks like a creature

Fill half of a small grid at random and mirror it, and the brain reads a face or a body. That is the whole trick behind procedural invaders. Creature mode goes further. Fill probability falls off toward the edges so the silhouette stays compact, an outline ring is traced around the body, cells under an open edge get a highlight and cells above one get a shade, and two eyes are placed when there is room.

Sprites are drawn as merged runs of crisp-edged rectangles, so they stay sharp at any scale with no blurry upscaling. Set Sprites per row above 1 for a sprite sheet. Each sprite in the sheet has its own seed derived from the main one.

Reproducible by design

Every image comes from a seed. The address bar holds the generator, the seed, the size and only the settings you changed, so the link redraws the exact same picture on any device. That is useful for picking up where you left off, sending someone a design, or regenerating a file at a bigger size later. See how it works.

Questions

Can I get a transparent background for game sprites?

Yes. Turn on Transparent background and download PNG, WebP or SVG. JPEG has no transparency, so it gets a white background.

How big are the sprites in pixels?

Sprite pixels sets the grid (5 to 16 cells). The output image can be any size; each sprite cell is scaled up with hard edges.

Can I turn a photo into pixel art here?

No. This generator makes new sprites from a seed and never reads a photo.

Will the same seed always give the same sprite sheet?

Yes. Sprite k in the sheet uses a seed derived from the main seed and k.
