Random, but harmonious

Random RGB colours tend to bunch into similar mid-tones. Each palette here starts from a harmony scheme around a random base hue (analogous, complementary, split-complementary, triadic, tetradic or monochrome) and spreads lightness from dark to light in OKLCH, a colour space where equal steps look equal. Pastel, earthy and neon-on-dark presets change the chroma and lightness range.

Click any swatch to change it, lock the palette, and roll the layout. Code gives a hex list, CSS custom properties and a JSON array. The image layouts (strips, bands, proportional blocks, circles, a labelled card) are handy for mood boards and style guides.

Reproducible by design

Every image comes from a seed. The address bar holds the generator, the seed, the size and only the settings you changed, so the link redraws the exact same picture on any device. That is useful for picking up where you left off, sending someone a design, or regenerating a file at a bigger size later. See how it works.

Questions

How are the colours chosen?

A random base hue and harmony scheme set the hues, an even lightness ladder from dark to light sets lightness, and chroma is picked per scheme. Colours outside sRGB are pulled back in by reducing chroma.

Can I use a palette in other generators?

Yes. Copy the hex list, then click the swatches in another generator's palette control and set the same values. Every palette control takes any colours you choose.

How many colours can a palette have?

Three to eight.

Are the hex codes in the image accurate?

Yes. The labels are the same values listed in Code.
