Thousands of strokes following a seeded noise field. SVG works for pen plotters.

The algorithm

An angle field comes from fractal gradient noise, with Curl multiplying how far it turns. Each particle starts somewhere (anywhere, an even grid, a ring or the left edge), takes small steps in the field's direction and leaves a stroke. Strokes are colour-grouped into one path per colour, which keeps the SVG compact and makes pen changes easy on a plotter.

Positions are measured in units of the shorter side, so the number of strokes and their lengths stay the same at every size. Only sharpness changes.

Reproducible by design

Every image comes from a seed. The address bar holds the generator, the seed, the size and only the settings you changed, so the link redraws the exact same picture on any device. That is useful for picking up where you left off, sending someone a design, or regenerating a file at a bigger size later. See how it works.

Questions

Can I plot the SVG on a pen plotter?

Yes. Strokes are open paths without fills, grouped by colour. You may want to lower Strokes for plotting time.

Why is the SVG large?

Each stroke is a polyline of many points. With 3,000 strokes of 300 steps, the file can run to a few megabytes. Lower Strokes or Stroke length to shrink it.

What does Curl do?

It multiplies the noise value into an angle. Low curl gives gentle currents, high curl tight swirls.

Is it reproducible?

Yes. The field, the starting points and the colours all come from the seed.
