Random avatar generator

Identicons, initials, rings, orbs and faces. The same name always gives the same avatar.

512×512 · vector

Your rolls appear here. Use ← and → to step back and forth.

Every image is generated in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.

Random, or fixed to a name

Leave the name field empty and every roll gives a new avatar. Type a name or an email address and the avatar is derived from that text alone (trimmed and lower-cased), so “Priya@Example.com” gives the same identicon on every device, every time. That makes it useful for default profile pictures in an app or a test database.

Styles: a mirrored 5×5 identicon, concentric rings, initials on a gradient, a soft blurred orb, and a simple geometric face. Shape can be a circle, a rounded square or a square, with transparent corners.

Reproducible by design

Every image comes from a seed. The address bar holds the generator, the seed, the size and only the settings you changed, so the link redraws the exact same picture on any device. That is useful for picking up where you left off, sending someone a design, or regenerating a file at a bigger size later. See how it works.

Questions

Is the name I type sent anywhere?

No. It is hashed in your browser to pick the avatar's colours and shapes and is never sent. It does appear in the page link if you copy that link.

What size should a profile picture be?

Square. 512×512 suits most apps. The WhatsApp DP preset is 500×500, and WhatsApp shows it as a circle. Avatars are vector, so any size stays sharp.

Can I generate many avatars for test users?

Yes. Use Bulk mode with the Avatar generator to make up to 1,000 at once, each with its own seed and listed in manifest.json.

Are these avatars unique?

They are deterministic, not registered. Two different names can, rarely, produce similar identicons, as with any hash-based avatar.
